Cleaning and Maintaining Your Outdoor Kitchen

Cooking outdoors brings joy. But if you cherish your kitchen, you care for it too. The good news: Theiss materials are crafted for the outdoors. They withstand rain, sun, and long summers. All they need is a little attention at the right time.

This guide shows you how to proceed depending on the surface. Because whether ceramic, granite, or HPL: each material has its own logic. Discover more about the available configurations on the Custom Outdoor Kitchen page.

First: the one rule that always applies

Always clean your kitchen once it has cooled down. Turn off the gas or electricity beforehand. Brush off coarse residues dry before introducing water. And never use a pressure washer on joints or seals: the pressure that loosens dirt also works where it shouldn't.

Ceramic and Porcelain Stoneware

Most Theiss worktops are made of ceramic or porcelain stoneware. There's a good reason for this: ceramic absorbs no moisture, withstands heat well beyond 200 degrees, and can be installed UV- and frost-resistant. In short: it is made precisely for this purpose.

For daily care, warm water with a little dish soap and a soft sponge suffice. Let stubborn spots soak. Don't scrub—wait.

For limescale stains or discoloration, a vinegar-based cleaner helps. Let it sit briefly, then rinse. What to avoid: scouring cream, abrasive pads, and concentrated acids. Your surface will thank you by looking like new for years.

Granite

Some configurations feature a granite worktop. Granite is robust and dense but sensitive to acids. Avoid lemon juice, vinegar, or aggressive cleaners directly on the stone.

For daily maintenance, a damp cloth with mild soapy water is enough. Once a year, a special granite sealant is worthwhile—it repels stains and protects the surface.

HPL Surfaces

HPL stands for High Pressure Laminate. The panels are lightweight, stable, and handle temperature fluctuations with ease. Cleaning is incredibly simple: damp cloth, mild cleaner, done.

No solvents, no abrasives. Matte HPL is the smarter choice for outdoor use, as it makes scratches less visible than high-gloss finishes.

Stainless Steel: Frames, Drawers, and Sink

At Theiss, stainless steel isn't the worktop but the backbone of the kitchen: support profiles, front panels, drawer frames, sink. Robust, yet deserving of mindful care.

After cooking, quickly wipe with a damp microfiber cloth and dry. Water spots form quickly but disappear just as fast. Every two to three months, apply a thin layer of stainless steel care oil: it protects and restores the shine.

Steel wool and abrasives are off-limits. They scratch the surface and expose it to rust.

Grill and Plancha

The grill is the heart of it all. And it demands the most attention.

After every use: brush grates while still warm, empty the drip tray. It takes two minutes and saves you an hour of scrubbing later.

Once a month during the season: remove grates, soak in warm soapy water, check burner covers, clean the fat collection tray.

Plancha: After cooking, add a little water at high heat, loosen residues with a spatula, wipe dry. Lightly oil cast iron afterward.

Once a year: thoroughly inspect the grill. Check burners, inspect gas hoses for cracks, test regulators. It's not a big task, but an important one.

Sink and Storage

Clean the sink with dish soap after use, flush the drain once a month. This keeps everything free-flowing.

Theiss cabinets are weather-resistant and don't require covers. Still, after heavy rain, briefly open the doors to air them out. Twice a year: wipe the interior, check for moisture traces.

When It's Due

After every use: brush grill, wipe worktop, empty drip tray.

Monthly during the season: clean stainless steel parts damp, soak grill grates, flush drain.

Spring: Thoroughly clean all surfaces, check appliances, test gas connections.

Fall: Deep clean, preserve grill, shut off water.

A Kitchen That Keeps Up
